4-Step Action Plans How to Plan Small Projects Have you ever finished a project and realized you've skipped a key step? Now you have to go back and re-do everything! If this sounds familiar, have no fear! Next time you start a small- to medium-sized project, try using an Action Plan. It can help you to organize your project efficiently, by putting tasks in a sensible order so that you don't miss any key steps. 1. Identify Tasks Brainstorm all of the tasks that you need to complete to meet your objective. Then, prioritize them according to deadline or, if work needs to be signed off by someone else, their availability. 2. Analyze and Delegate Tasks Now, look at each task in detail. Are there any that are unnecessary or that you can delegate? Do you need any additional resources to complete them? 3. Use SCHEMES to Double Check Your Plan Before you start, make sure that your Action Plan includes everything you need. Do this by using the SCHEMES checklist: Space. Cash. Helpers/People. Equipment. Materials. Expertise. Systems. 4. Learn From Your Plan Once you've completed your project, review your Action Plan. Note down anything you could have done better. This will help you to improve your planning process for similar projects. © 2022 Mind Tools by Emerald Works Ltd.
